Vietnam’s high-level delegation joins the summit with a clear message of proactiveness, responsibility, and stronger contributions to ASEAN’s common goals. The country seeks to work closely with other member states to define strategic directions and practical measures to reinforce regional cooperation and elevate ASEAN’s standing in the coming years.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) –🦋 Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh joined leaders of other ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste at the opening session of the 46th ASEAN Summit and related high-level meetings, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on May 26 morning.
The summit also brought together ministers and senior officials from ASEAN’s three community pillars, Timor-Leste’s foreign minister and senior officials, the ASEAN Secretary-General, and other relevant stakeholders. The event is expected to welcome around 1,000 delegates, along with hundreds of domestic and international journalists covering the proceedings.

Vietnam’s high-level delegation joins the summit with a clear message of proactiveness, responsibility, and stronger contributions to ASEAN’s common goals. The country seeks to work closely with other member states to define strategic directions and practical measures to reinforce regional cooperation and elevate ASEAN’s standing in the coming years.
Hosted by Malaysia as the 2025 ASEAN Chair, the 46th ASEAN Summit and related high-level meetings are taking place from May 26–27 in Kuala Lumpur under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” with the participation of leaders from ASEAN, Timor-Leste, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and China.
Over the course of approximately 10 sessions on the agenda, leaders will engage in in-depth discussions on ways to strengthen intra-bloc cooperation, expand ties with partners, enhance economic resilience, and identify new drivers for cooperation amid growing regional and global uncertainties.

They will focus their discussion on key priorities to strengthen ASEAN’s central role by fostering strategic trust through dialogue, diplomacy, and goodwill; expand practical and effective cooperation with external partners; and promote sustainable and inclusive growth through enhanced intra-bloc trade and investment, stronger economic integration, connected markets and supply chains, green finance and investment, and digital resilience. Other focuses include building the community, narrowing development gaps and inequality, improving quality of life, and mitigating impacts of climate change.
These meetings are an important occasion for leaders to exchange views, assess progress, and agree on strategic orientations to intensify cooperation, maintain the momentum of ASEAN Community building, improve resilience, action coordination, and collective response, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and prosperity in the region.
PM Chinh is scheduled to attend the plenary and retreat sessions of the 46th ASEAN Summit, a Dialogue with Representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), a dialogue with representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), a meeting with ASEAN youth representatives, a session with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC), along with various important bilateral and multilateral activities./.
In his opening speech, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed Malaysia’s honour to take the 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship. Noting the significance of 2025 as the 10th founding anniversary of the ASEAN Community, he underscored the summit’s role in shaping the bloc’s future through the adoption of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
Since joining the group on July 28, 1995, Vietnam has emerged as a linchpin in building a strong, united, and proactive ASEAN with growing global and regional standing.
This marks the first official visit to Malaysia by a Vietnamese PM in a decade, and the first visit by a key Vietnamese leader since the two countries elevated their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in November last year.
The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Long spoke highly of the dynamic, positive, and comprehensive development of Vietnam – Russia relations in recent years. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State place great importance on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia in a substantive and effective manner, in line with the development needs of both nations.
At the conference, participants reported that the Government has so far issued 28 decrees on the delegation of responsibilities and powers between the central Government and two-tier local administrations. Several localities have already piloted the new governance model.

Under the official dispatch signed on June 20, ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies, and chairpersons of provincial and municipal People’s Committees are requested to concentrate efforts on implementing core measures to ensure the smooth operations of the new administrative framework.
The Party chief underscored the need for the press to innovate relentlessly, evolve to keep pace with the country's development, transform into a truly professional, humanistic, and modern sector that serves the cause of the Party, the State, and the people on the path to national construction and development.
The UN Secretary-General praised Vietnam’s remarkable achievements in socio-economic development and international integration in recent years, noting that the country has emerged as a model in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting international peace and security, and engaging in key UN processes.
Nghia affirmed that this is a milestone of special significance, affirming and honouring the the Vietnamese revolutionary press’s glorious tradition of 100 years of serving the revolutionary cause of the Party, serving the Fatherland, and serving the people.

Vietnam is ready to work with the Chinese Party and State to further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and promote the building of the Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.

NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man stressed the need to accelerate the application of artificial intelligence and smart teaching equipment, innovate teaching and assessment methods, and further improve the quality of formal education.
He also pledged that the NA will promote its ongoing supervision, making sure that every promise must lead to results, and every commitment must bring about real changes.
Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien welcomed the proposals put forward by the US side and reiterated Vietnam’s request for consideration of key areas of interest, including reciprocal tariff policies and access for Vietnamese key export products to the US market.
