Da Nang (VNA) - President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who is also Chairman of the NationalDefence-Security Council and Commander of the people’s armed forces, inspectedcombat readiness for the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival at the Military Region 5 HighCommand in the central city of Da Nang on January 16.
President Phuc praised efforts made by the Military Region 5, especially in assisting localities in socio-economic development andensuring national defence-security.
He asked the Party Committee and High Command of the Military Region 5 to offer a warmTet to soldiers, policy beneficiaries and poor households, especially those in mountainous,border and island areas.
Officers and soldiers of the Military Region 5 were also requiredto pay further attention to building and consolidating self-defence militia andall-people defence posture.
Synchronous measures must be adopted to build a politicallystrong force, with attention being given to political and ideologicaleducation, he said, adding that they must well perform defence external workand build a borderline of friendship, peace and cooperation between Vietnam and its neighbouring Laos and Cambodia.

The High Command of Military Region 7 of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) on April 7 handed over medical supplies and equipment to some units of the Cambodian Royal Army to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Commander of the Military Region 2 High Command, Major General Pham Hong Chuong transferred medical supplies and equipment to representatives of northern Lao provinces on April 21 to support their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The High Command of Military Region 4 handed over medical supplies to the Lao People’s Armed Forces (LPAF) on April 23, in support of the country’s fight against COVID-19.
