Hanoi (VNA) - President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has handed the second-class Independence Order to poet Huu Thinh at a ceremony at theHanoi Opera House.
The May 8 event was jointly held by the Vietnam Union of Literatureand Arts Associations and the Vietnam Writers’ Association.
80-year-old Huu Thinh, pennamed Vu Huu, who is alsoa writer, joined the association in 1970. He has workedas General Secretary and President of the association for four consecutivetenures. Huu Thinh was a National Assembly deputy in the 10th and 11th terms.
With works of different styles, he has won many domesticand regional literature awards since 1980.
The distinction honours Huu Thinh’s contributions tothe country’s literature and art sector over the past six decades./.
The Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations (VULAA) held a scientific seminar in Hanoi on November 19 to discuss current issues on culture-art development, attracting the participation of cultural researchers and artists.
The Vietnam Writers’ Association has announced the winners of the 2021 Literature Awards, spread across four categories: Theory and Critics, Poetry-Prose, Children’s Literature, and Translation. Author Truong Dang Dung won the Theory And Critics category for his research on literary texts and the instability of meaning.
The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.
This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.

For the first time, the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) has granted Vietnam hosting rights for the two championships, including the Asian women’s solo category, which debuts this year as an officially recognised event.
