Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran DaiQuang received heads of delegations to the 14th Assembly of the Asian Organisationof Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI 14) in Hanoi on September 19.

ASOSAI 14 is taking place in Hanoi fromSeptember 19-22 under the theme “Environmental Audit for SustainableDevelopment”, and has attracted 46 supreme audit agencies in Asia and 15international organisations.

At the meeting, Auditor General of the StateAudit Office of Vietnam (SAV) Ho Duc Phoc informed President Quang on ASOSAI 14’sagenda, adding that foreign delegates highly valued Vietnam’s preparations forthe triennial assembly, as well as its agenda and theme.

President Quang welcomed foreign delegations toHanoi for the event, which also coincides with the 40th anniversary of theASOSAI Charter.

He spoke highly of the development of ASOSAI,which has developed from 11 initial members to 46 members over the last 40 yearsand become one of seven regional organisations of the InternationalOrganisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).

ASOSAI has always taken the lead in publicaudit and public governance, as well as greatly contributed towards thedevelopment of supreme audit institutions (SAIs) in the region and the world,President Quang said.

The President thanked ASOSAI for entrusting theSAV with the hosting of the 14th assembly and the chairmanship of ASOSAI for the2018-2021 term.

President Quang also appreciated theorganisation’s active and effective assistance to Vietnam and valued theincreasingly important role of SAIs in the sustainable development of eachcountry and the region. He added that the role of SAIs in supervising the managementand use of resources will thereby help to ensure transparency and improve theeffectiveness of budget and public asset use in member nations.

According to the State leader, in Vietnam, theSAV has made major contributions to the public finance examining and monitoringsystem. Its legal status is clearly regulated in the 2013 Constitution and inline with the Lima Declaration of INTOSAI. The SAV has proved useful in helpingthe National Assembly to supervise the management and use of the budget andpublic asset.

President Quang also took this occasion to askINTOSAI, ASOSAI, and member agencies to enhance cooperation in order to realiseinitiatives and solutions towards stable and sustainable public finance, topromote efforts in the direction of sustainable development goals, and to boostinitiatives on environmental auditing.

He also called on them to increase the sharingof information and experience, especially in training auditors, and to help theSAV to fulfil its role as the ASOSAI Chair for 2018-2021.–VNA
