President urges more efforts to restructure businesses

Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang has asked Party cells under theParty Organisation of the Central Business Bloc to work harder to fulfill thetask of business restructuring while closely managing, protecting anddeveloping State capital and assets at enterprises.
The State leader made the request at a reception for 60outstanding secretaries of Party cells from the Party Organisation of Central BusinessBloc in Hanoion January 4.
President Quang highlighted the significant role of theParty Organisation of Central Business Bloc in ensuring the Party leadershipover the building and developing of Vietnam’s socialist-oriented marketeconomy.
He noted that enterprises under the bloc play an importantrole in different economic sectors, including industry, trade, service,transportation, construction, agro-forestry, finance-banking and insurance.
He expressed delight that over the past 10 years, the PartyOrganisation of Central Business Bloc have showed strong performance in leadingenterprises in implementing political tasks.
The leader asked the organisation to continue implementing theParty Central Committee’s resolution on reforming growth model and enhancinggrowth quality, labour productivity and economic competitiveness as well as Partybuilding
It should also realise the Politburo’s direction on stepping up the study andfollowing of President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example, he added.
Businesses under the bloc need to promote their role as thekey force of the economy, contributing to developing the socialist-orientedmarket economy featuring various forms of ownership and numerous economicsectors with State-owned sector playing a core role and private sector acting asan important driving force.-VNA
Employees of State-owned enterprises’ subsidiaries will be able to buy shares of the parent companies at preferential prices when those State-owned enterprises (SOEs) are equitised.
Strengthening financial supervision of State-owned enterprises (SOEs) is key to improving their performance and enhancing the efficiency of State investments, experts said on November 29.
About 3.56 trillion VND (156.7 million USD) of State capital has been divested from State-owned enterprises (SOEs) so far this year, the Sai Gon Giai phong (Liberated Saigon) daily reported.
The programme to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses has achieved notable results, with nearly 263,000 housing units addressed to date, including 225,000 houses inaugurated and 38,000 under construction. Thirty-eight provinces and cities across the nation have already fulfilled their targets.
