Hanoi (VNA) - President Tran Dai Quang has written an article tomark the 50th anniversary of the Mau Than General Offensive and Uprising inspring 1968.
Inhis article entitled “Promoting the fighting spirit for success of the 1968Spring Mau Than General Offensive and Uprising in national renovation,construction and defence,” President Quang highlighted the event as a milestonein Vietnamese people’s warfare art and powerful staunchness of the people inthe Ho Chi Minh era.
Hesaid five decades after the historical victory, Vietnam has recordedsignificant growth in the context of fast-changing world that requires thewhole Party, people and army to make greater efforts and turn challenges intoopportunities for comprehensive national development in politics, economics,culture, social, national defence, security, and foreign affairs.
Socio-economic development is put in the center, Party building is pivotal, culturaland human building are seen as a spiritual foundation, and national defence andsecurity are crucial and regular.
ThePresident stressed the need to build a transparent and strong Party andpolitical system, continue implementing strategic breakthroughs to speed upeconomic restructuring in line with growth model reform and increase theproductivity, efficiency and competitiveness of the economy.
Itis also essential to actively respond to climate change; effectively managenatural resources; protect the environment; intensify defence and security tosafeguard the country’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity;maintain peace and stability; and raise the country’s position and prestige inthe region and the world, he wrote.
Thegreat spirit and high determination to notch up victory over the Mau ThanGeneral Offensive and Uprising in spring 1968 has been and will continue tostrongly encourage the Party, people and army of Vietnam to overcomedifficulties and challenges while seizing new opportunities in order to developVietnam into a modern, industrialised country, he said.
TheState leader called for combined efforts to uphold the spirit of patriotism,self-reliance, dynamism and creativity towards the goal of developing Vietnaminto a powerful country with rich people living in an equal, democratic, andcivilised society, firmly advancing to socialism.-VNA
