Press brings voters’ voice to legislature: Top legislator

Hanoi (VNA) - National൲ Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man has praised the vital role of journalism in national development, commending generations of journalists for their steadfast contributions to the cause of national construction 🐷and defence over the past century.
Speaking at a meeting with leaders of major media agencies on June 15 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press (June 21, 1925–2025), Chairman Man extended his gratitude and congratulations to the country’s journalists for their remarkable achievements and efforts.
He noted that press coverage has vividly and comprehensively reflected the activities of the NA, with timely and topical reporting before, during, and after each session of the legislature and its Standing Committee. Media outlets have provided a wide array of content across political, economic, social, defence, security, foreign affairs, Party-building, and anti-corruption issues. Formats have also diversified, ranging from print and broadcast to online and multimedia platforms. Many articles have actively refuted false and hostile narratives.
To further strengthen the press’s role in the time ahead, the top legislator called on media organisations to enhance coverage of major events of the Party and the nation, especially in conveying the core messages of Party General Secretary To Lam and the four key Party resolutions. He also urged greater focus on themes such as thrift practices, anti-wastefulness, education and healthcare reforms, anti-corruption, and local governance.
The NA Chairman underscored the importance of timely, accurate reporting on the work of the NA and People's Councils at all levels, both domestically and internationally. He highlighted the press’s role in transmitting the sentiments and aspirations of voters to the legislature and in helping to build a more modern, professional, and people-oriented parliamentary institution.
Journalists are frontline soldiers in the ideological and cultural sphere, Man emphasise, saying they must carry the spirit of revolution, speak truth to power, defend the good, and spread what is positive, for the sake of the common cause. He urged continual improvement in political integrity, responsibility, professional skills, and ethical standards among media professionals.
In line with the ongoing streamlining of the political system, the Chairman also stressed the need for the media sector to embrace digital transformation, develop modern, professional, and humane news organisations, and safeguard information sovereignty in cyberspace while advancing Vietnam’s digital content industry.
He pointed to the necessity of reviewing and revising the Press Law and related legislation to better support press activities in a manner suited to each type of media and aligned with the dynamics of modern journalism.
He noted that the recent decision by the NA to reduce the corporate income tax for press organisations to 10% reflects a shared understanding and sense of responsibility from lawmakers towards the challenges facing the media sector.
Expressing his confidence in the future of Vietnamese journalism, the top legislator said he believes that with their rich tradition and experience, journalists will continue to fulfil their noble mission with integrity, clarity, and sharpness, qualities once taught by President Ho Chi Minh.
During the meeting, participants discussed ways to further enhance collaboration between the NA and the media, offering insightful proposals for developing a modern and professional press environment that contributes to building a law-governed socialist state and ensuring sustainable national development.

Speaking at the event, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) General Director Vu Viet Trang highlighted the press’s active and in-depth coverage of the NA ninth session, including the resolution on provincial-level administrative re-organisation for 2025. She noted that the VNA had also compiled and reported international perspectives on the NA’s recent decisions to the appropriate authorities.
Trang affirmed that the ongoing revision of the Press Law aims to establish a more enabling legal framework for the press in the digital era. Following Party and Government directives, media outlets are accelerating digital transformation and streamlining their organisational structures under Resolution No. 18 to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
She added that VNA journalists are committed to aligning their work with global information flows, contributing to Vietnam’s development in the new era.
To mark the occasion, the VNA General Director presented the NA Chairman with a Vietnamese–English photo book titled “100 Years of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press (1925–2025)”, published by the Vietnam News Agency Publishing House./.
Kitagawa was first introduced to Vietnamese media in late 1973, when he arrived in Hanoi to study the Vietnamese language at the University of Hanoi. Since then, his connection to Vietnam has deepened through three postings as a correspondent. He currently serves as Vice President of the Tokyo chapter of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association.
With more than 1,000 precious photos and concise articles, the book chronicles the evolution and growth of Vietnam’s revolutionary press in tandem with the key milestones of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the nation’s broader revolutionary path.
A ceremony was held on June 10 to launch the photo book “100 Years of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press (1925–2025)”, marking the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 – 2025).
Long spoke highly of the dynamic, positive, and comprehensive development of Vietnam – Russia relations in recent years. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State place great importance on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia in a substantive and effective manner, in line with the development needs of both nations.
At the conference, participants reported that the Government has so far issued 28 decrees on the delegation of responsibilities and powers between the central Government and two-tier local administrations. Several localities have already piloted the new governance model.
Reality is the ultimate benchmark for success, he said, urging drafting agencies to work out policies that foster development, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and respect practical conditions.
Under the official dispatch signed on June 20, ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies, and chairpersons of provincial and municipal People’s Committees are requested to concentrate efforts on implementing core measures to ensure the smooth operations of the new administrative framework.
The Party chief underscored the need for the press to innovate relentlessly, evolve to keep pace with the country's development, transform into a truly professional, humanistic, and modern sector that serves the cause of the Party, the State, and the people on the path to national construction and development.
The UN Secretary-General praised Vietnam’s remarkable achievements in socio-economic development and international integration in recent years, noting that the country has emerged as a model in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting international peace and security, and engaging in key UN processes.
Nghia affirmed that this is a milestone of special significance, affirming and honouring the the Vietnamese revolutionary press’s glorious tradition of 100 years of serving the revolutionary cause of the Party, serving the Fatherland, and serving the people.
The Party and State of Vietnam always attach great importance to and give top priority to the development of Vietnam–China relations. Vietnam is ready to work with the Chinese Party and State to further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and promote the building of the Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.
Under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh and the CPV, President Cuong said, the press has been a steadfast force on the ideological and cultural front, rallying the masses to pursue national aspirations.
NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man stressed the need to accelerate the application of artificial intelligence and smart teaching equipment, innovate teaching and assessment methods, and further improve the quality of formal education.
He also pledged that the NA will promote its ongoing supervision, making sure that every promise must lead to results, and every commitment must bring about real changes.
Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien welcomed the proposals put forward by the US side and reiterated Vietnam’s request for consideration of key areas of interest, including reciprocal tariff policies and access for Vietnamese key export products to the US market.
Deputy PM Le Thanh Long proposed countries promote shared values, including building trust, sincerity, and solidarity among nations and peoples; fostering cooperation spirit and responsible behaviour as well as upholding international law and the UN Charter; and placing people at the centre and as the goal, the key player, and the driving force of all policies.
The show, together with a grand parade to be held silmutaneously at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, the National Day, and the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).
