Programme provides free heart surgery for nearly 5,200 children
The “Trai tim cho em” (Operation Healthy Heart) programme has provided free surgery for nearly 5,200 children suffering from congenital heart defects, heard a gala held in Ho Chi Minh City on December 15.
HCM City (VNA) – The “Trai timcho em” (Operation Healthy Heart) programme has provided free surgery fornearly 5,200 children suffering from congenital heart defects, heard a galaheld in Ho Chi Minh City on December 15.
The event was jointly organised by theVietnam Television (VTV)’s “Tam long Viet” (Vietnam’s Heart) foundation and theViettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel).
Speaking at the gala, Politburo member andSecretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan spokehighly of the charity programme.
It has also contributed to child protectionand education in Vietnam as well as the country’s hunger eradication and povertyalleviation efforts, he added.
“Trai tim cho em” has raised 152 billionVND (6.5 million USD) over the past 11 years. In addition, over 130,000children nationwide have received free heart disease screening.
In 2019 alone, the programme provided freesurgery for more than 550 child patients while around 30,000 children receivedfree screenings, doubling 2018’s figure.
On the occasion, the programme’s newambassadors - footballers Nguyen Trong Hoang, Que Ngoc Hai and Bui Tien Dung -presented a jersey with signatories of all members of the U22 team and Koreanhead coach Park Hang-seo, which will be auctioned to raise funds for futureoperations for children born with heart defects./.
The 6,000th child with heart diseases has just received free surgery under a programme funded by VinaCapital Foundation, said CEO of the foundation Robin King Austin on January 16.
Heartbeat Vietnam, VinaCapital Foundation’s health care programme, has funded 7,000 life-saving heart operations for disadvantaged children with congenital heart defects in Vietnam after 12 years of operation.
About 10,000 people are expected to take part in the 2019 Run for the Heart race, an annual event to support disadvantaged children with congenital heart diseases.
The adoption of the latest advancements in cardiovascular surgery such as robot-assisted surgery and three-dimensional (3D) laparoscopic surgery has resulted in better treatment of cardiovascular diseases in Vietnam, leading cardiologists have said.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.
