Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan made the statement at areception for Prof. Neal Koblitz from the Mathematics Faculty ofWashington University on December 11.
Nhan said theProfessor’s prestige and achievements will contribute to promotingcooperation in maths between US and Vietnamese universities.
He stressed that Vietnam considers the development of fundamentalscientific subjects, including mathematics, the foundation for nationalsustainable development. Vietnam has established a MathematicsInstitute to attract a greater number of scientists, researchers andstudents participating in the subject professionally, he added.
For his part, Neal highly valued the importance Vietnam attachesto education and training development, especially in mathematics. Hesaid Vietnam is heading in the right direction.
He affirmed that he will do his utmost and encourage othermathematicians to contribute to the development of Vietnam ’sMathematics Institute.-VNA
