Hanoi (VNA) –Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has underlined the urgent need to establish andimplement a regional and global cooperation mechanism, increase data sharing, and perfect policies for the conservation of ecosystems and environmentalprotection.
Addressing a videoconference broadcast live on the Quan doi Nhan dan (People’s Army) televisionchannel on June 28 night, the leader also stressed the importance of the sustainable exploitation of marine resources in a substantive and effective manner, coupled with the preservation and restoration of marine and coastal ecosystems.
The act of protecting thesea and the ocean shows the gratitude and responsibility to "MotherNature" and the life on Earth of each country and each person, hestressed.

The leader underlined that seas and oceans are facing numerous traditional andnon-traditional challenges and various problems that are threatening theexistence of many nations, countries and communities.

This is a common issueof the globe and all people, requiring all countries and communities and eachperson to show proper awareness and actions for the green ocean, peace, safetyand sustainable development, Chinh underscored.

He highlighted thesignificance of ensuring a peaceful and stable environment and security at seaon the foundation of international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention onthe Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and respect for sovereignty and interest and legaleconomic activities of states.

At the same time, itis necessary to settle disputes through peaceful measures in line withinternational law with respect for diplomatic and legal processes, ensuringmaritime and aviation freedom, safety and security, andimplementing regulations onfisheries cooperation mechanisms in the world to which coastal countries aremembers, as well as principles of the FAO Code ofConduct for Responsible Fisheries.

PM Chinh affirmed thatas a coastal country seriously suffering impacts from climate change andsea level rise, Vietnam has shown strong determination to join hands with theinternational community towards the blue sea, green Earth, peace, stability,cooperation and prosperous development, while working hard with respect forinternational laws and conventions, and actively engaging in bilateral andmultilateral and bilateral mechanisms, and promoting regional and internationalcooperation related to seas and oceans.

Vietnam commits tostrictly implementing international obligations, reducing emissions, respondingto climate changes, ensuring maritime security and safety, and settling sea andocean disputes through peaceful measures in accordance with international law.

The country resolutely andpersistently protects its legitimate rights and interests, independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and respects the legitimate rights and interests of other countries, he stressed.

Along withimplementing Party resolutions and laws as well as direction on developingsea-based economy in line with protecting national defence and security,Vietnam will roll out measures to preserve biodiversity and restore marineecosystems, and deal with sources of pollution, including plastic waste, hepledged.

ThePM thanked international organisations and development partners around theworld and said he hopes to continue receiving their cooperation and support on sea andocean-related issues.

He affirmed the Partyand State of Vietnam’s consistent policy of being ready to cooperate and joinhands with the international community in solving global challenges in the seasand oceans, especially in environmental protection and rational, effective andsustainable exploitation of marine economic resources, contributing to better ensuringwelfare for the people in association with the protection of regional andinternational peace and security.

He also called onevery person to take practical, effective and meaningful actions to express gratitudeto Mother Nature, including the sea and ocean./.
