Canberra (VNA) – TheVietnamese Ministry of Public Security wants to consolidate cooperation withAustralian law enforcement agencies to protect national security, social safetyand stability of each country, said visiting Minister To Lam during talks with AustralianMinister of Immigration and Border Protection Peter Dutton on December 12.

Lam said his visit marks animportant milestone to beef up ties between the Vietnamese Ministry of PublicSecurity and Australian law enforcement agencies, including the Ministry ofImmigration and Border Protection.

Dutton, for his part, expressedhis delight at the development of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnershipover the past time and the recent signing of the Australia-Vietnam ActionProgramme for 2016-2019 during Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh’s visit onNovember 30.

At the talks, the two sidespledged to continue effectively realising signed agreements, improving the efficiencyof existing cooperation channels, facilitating the exchange of all-levelvisits, combating human trafficking rings and illegal immigration.

They will also reinforce trainingof cadres working in immigration management and offer mutual support atmultilateral forums, international seminars and conferences.

They agreed to give advices to thetwo governments to extend bilateral ties across natural energy exploitation,animal breeding, cultivation of industrial plants and mining.

Concluding the talks, they signeda memorandum of understanding on welcoming back illegal Vietnamese immigrants.

Meeting Commissioner of theAustralian Federal Police Andrew Colvin the same day, Lam informed the host ofthe MoU signing and achievements in fighting trans-national crimes between thetwo sides.

In order to enhance bilateralties, host and guest agreed that priority should be given to therecently-signed 2016-2019 action programme and a number of valid agreements onextradition or transfer of sentenced persons./.
