Quang Tri approves park named after Cuban leader

Authorities of the central province of Quang Tri on September 12 approved naming a park in Dong Ha city after Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.

QuangTri (VNA) – Authorities of the central province of Quang Tri onSeptember 12 approved naming a park in Dong Ha city after Cuban revolutionaryleader Fidel Castro.

The decision was made during a meeting of theprovincial People’s Council to discuss naming of the park, as part ofactivities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Fidel Castro’s historical visitto the newly-liberated area in the south of Vietnam in Quang Tri province.

The Fidel Park is hoped to express the sentiment ofQuang Tri people to the Cuban leader, thus deepening ties between Vietnam andCuba.

The park – spanning 16.15ha – is located at one of thespots Castro visited during his trip 45 years ago. It was built at a cost ofnearly 138 billion VND (about 6 million USD), including 30 billion VND sourcedfrom the State budget.

Fidel made three visits to Vietnam in September 1973,December 1995, and February 2003. He was the first foreign leader to visit thenewly-liberated area in the south of Vietnam. He took the lead in internationalmovements to support Vietnam’s struggle for national independence andreunification, along with its process of national development and defence.

ಌ Due to his contributions, the Cuban leader waspresented with the two noblest orders of the Vietnamese State: the Golden StarOrder in 1982 and the Ho Chi Minh Order in 1989.-VNA
