Jakarta (VNA) – This year’s holy month of Ramadan in Indonesia – the world's largest Muslim-majority country with approximately 241 million Muslims, accounting for 88% of the population – begins on March 1.

Throughout the holy month, Muslims devote time to deep reflection and prayer. They fast from sunrise to sunset, abstaining from food and drink while focusing on good deeds and strengthening their faith.

Ramadan is also a time for community solidarity and togetherness in Indonesia. Families and neighbours gather for special prayers known as Taraweeh and share iftar meals.

In preparation for the holy month, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto directed the ministries of food coordination, trade, and agriculture, as well as other relevant agencies to ensure the availability of essential food supplies and prevent speculative price hikes. Efforts are underway to stabilise food prices throughout Ramadan.
