Hanoi(VNA) – Nearly 700 blood units were donated by over 1,500 volunteers during theeighth “Red Sunday” 2018 on January 14 at Hong Duc University in the centralprovince of Thanh Hoa.
The same day, in Vinhcity of neighbouring Nghe An province, the event was held with the engagementof more than 1,000 officials and youth union members. Nearly 1,000 blood unitsare expected to be collected during the day.
Lat year, youngstersof Nghe An organised more than 60 voluntary blood donation events for 29,510blood units.
One day earlier,hundreds of youth union members and young people in the southern province of DongNai also responded to the event and donated more than 360 blood units. This wasthe second time the “Red Sunday” had been held in the province.
Also on January 13, the“Red Sunday” attracted 500 students in the northern province of Yen Bai. Theorgansing board gathered more than 160 blood units, which was transported tothe National Institute for Hematology and Blood Transfusion in Hanoi for theneedy.
After nine years from2008-2017, the “Red Sunday” collected more than 70,000 blood units. In 2017alone, the event was responded by thousands of people from 25 localitiesnationwide with nearly 32,000 blood units.
In 2018, 33 localitieshave registered to organise the “Red Sunday” with an estimated 35,000 bloodunits.-VNA
