Hanoi (VNA) – The Prime Minister hasissued a decision regulating the functions, tasks, power and organisation ofthe State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Ministry ofForeign Affairs.
Under the decision, the committee is a generaldepartment-level agency under the direct control of the Foreign Ministry,tasked with assisting the Foreign Minister in exercising State management of affairsrelated to overseas Vietnamese (OVs).
The committee has the task to advise the ForeignMinister in submitting draft laws and legal documents related to OV affairs tothe Government, the Prime Minister and other competent organs.
Another function of the committee is to assess thesituation of OV communities, while supporting OVs in settling down andintegrating in the host society, along with promoting national unity andpreserving the national cultural identity among the communities.
The committee will work to disseminate informationon the Communist Party of Vietnam’s guidelines and policies, the VietnameseState’s laws and the situation in Vietnam among OVs.
It is responsible for implementing internationalcooperation related to OVs and managing social organisations related to OVs inaccordance with the law.
The committee is also tasked with mobilisingresources from OVs for national development and guiding and supporting OVs andtheir organisations in their links with the home country.
The committee is headed by a Deputy ForeignMinister assigned by the Foreign Minister and four deputy chairmen at most. -VNA
