Renewable energy, climate action prioritised in Party official’s visit to Germany

Berlin (VNA) – President of the Ho Chi Minh NationalAcademy of Politics (HCMA) Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang has been busy on hisvisit to Germany from May 14 – 19, with renewable energy and climate actionhigh on his working agenda.
Thang co-chaired the seventh theory dialogue betweenthe Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Social Democratic Party of Germany(SDP), during which the two parties exchanged views on a number of both theoreticaland practical matters.
Discussions have placed an emphasis on Vietnam’s energytransition strategy to ensure national energy security and fulfil internationalcommitments; developing green agriculture in Vietnam in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution; green growth and climate resilient models in someVietnamese localities; and the path towards an eco-social market economy andadvantages and challenges to energy transition and green agriculturedevelopment in Germany.
The Vietnamese official also had a meeting with SPDCo-leader Lars Klingbeil. He spoke highly of the long-standing friendship betweenthe two parties and the SPD’s efforts in co-hosting the seventh dialogue, and proposed both sides to further expand their relations in the coming time,contributing to accelerating the Vietnam-Germany strategic partnership.
He briefed his host on Vietnam’s socio-economic recoverypost-pandemic and the State and Party’s policies in climate change response,energy transition, green growth and sustainable development. He also proposedboth countries to strengthen the bilateral strategic partnership throughcooperation in energy transition, green growth, green agriculture, and harmoniouslyresolving social, economic, environmental and security problems, contributingto peace, dialogue, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Thang later met State Secretary at the German FederalMinistry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Patrick Graichen; StateSecretary and Special Envoy for International Climate Action Jennifer LeeMorgan; Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs,Transformation and Digitalisation of the State of Rhineland-PalatinateAlexander Schweitzer; and Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relationswith the ASEAN States.
The German officials highly valued Vietnam’s role andposition regionally and globally, affirming that the Southeast Asian countryremaining a key partner of the region and the two countries’ strategicpartnership is growing constantly.
Additionally, they appreciated Vietnam’s commitments made atthe 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) last year and itsachievements in transitioning towards renewable energy./.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and German Chancellor and leader of the German Social Democratic Party Olaf Scholz agreed to direct the promotion of the countries’ cooperation in the fields of mutual interest in their telephone conversation held on March 31.

The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
