Prague (VNA) – TheVietnamese community in Prague, the Czech Republic, gathered on March 14 at arequiem dedicated to those who laid down their lives to safeguard the homeland’ssovereignty over seas and islands.
The event, which was held by the Veterans’Association, the Buddhism Association, the Vietnam Culture and Art Associationin the Czech Republic and the Brothers for Motherlands, was attended by morethan 200 people, including Marcel Winter, Chairman of the Vietnam-CzechRepublic Association.
Participants showed respect tothe fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country’s seasand islands, including Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly)archipelagoes.
They also reaffirmed theresponsibilities of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic for joininghands in preserving the country’s sea and island sovereignty.
At the event, the organizationboard sent a letter of protest to the Chinese Embassy in the Czech Republic, highlightingVietnam’s stance on opposing the use of forces and requesting China to stop allactivities to change the status quo in the East Sea.
At the closing of the ceremony,participants also raised fund to assist families of the martyrs.-VNA
A requiem has been held in Truc Lam pagoda in Kharkov city, Ukraine for Vietnamese martyrs who died in the fight for the country’s sovereignty over islands and territorial waters.
A requiem for Vietnamese soldiers who laid down their lives for national independence was held at the Vi Xuyen war martyrs’ cemetery in the northernmost province of Ha Giang on August 26.
A requiem to commemorate Vietnamese soldiers who laid down their lives to defend national sovereignty was held in Khanh An pagoda in Thailand’s northeastern province of Udon Thani on March 8.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government.
