Hanoi (VNA) – The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam (DRVN) decided to set up a teamto probe into toll collection activities at Dau Giay station on Ho ChiMinh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway, said DRVN General Director Nguyen VanHuyen on February 16.
Toll collectionactivities at the station are managed and operated by the State-run VietnamExpressway Corporation (VEC). The examination will start on February 18.
The move comes afterarmed robbers escaped with almost 100,000 USD during a toll-station raid inearly February.
Questions wereraised over the amount of money stolen at the station on the busy HCM City-LongThanh-Dau Giay expressway in southern Vietnam on the morning of February 7, thethird day of the Lunar New Year.
Police said thetwo thieves made off with 2.2 billion VND (94,500 USD) in cash, which wasreportedly the cash collected that morning alone, much higher than previousVEC’s report that the daily revenue reached no more than 1 billion VND (42,900USD).
Results of the examinationwill be publicised, Huyen said.
On February 15,the VEC announced daily revenue of the combined three stations on the HCMCity-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway in the Lunar New Year holidays, which hit3.24 billion VND (about 140,000 USD).-VNA
