RoK, Indonesia discuss measures to strengthen strategic partnership

Seoul (VNA) - President Moon Jae-in of the Republic of Korea and his Indonesiancounterpart Joko Widodo discussed measures to enhance the two countries’special strategic partnership during their meeting in Seoul on September 10.

Indonesia is an important partner in the RoK’s New Southern Policy, which aims atexpanding economic ties with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

The two leaders evaluated the outcome of cooperation between the two countriesin the infrastructure sector, including light rail and hydroelectric powergeneration, and key industrial sectors such as the steel and petrochemicalindustries.

They agreed to expand their cooperation to railways, real estate developmentand smart transportation systems, while promoting practical cooperation forjoint prosperity in the automobile, information-communication and agriculturalsectors.

At the meeting, President Moon congratulated Indonesia on itssuccessful hosting of the recent Asian Games (ASIAD) 2018, and thanked President Widodofor inviting leaders of both Koreas to attend the ASIAD opening ceremony aswell as for his efforts for peace on the Korean peninsula.

He also thanked the government and people of Indonesia for their support forthe inter-Korean sport delegations to compete in ASIAD 2018.

The RoK President briefed his guest on the Korean peninsula’s situation whilecalling for Indonesia’s support and cooperation for efforts to achievedenuclearisation on the Korean Peninsula.

President Widodo arrived in Seoul on September 9 on a three-day visit thatreciprocated President Moon's visit to his country in November 2017. This is Widodo’ssecond visit to the RoK following the first in May 2016.-VNA
