RoK, Singapore vow close ties on security issues

The Republic of Korea (RoK) and Singapore agreed on March 19 during their defence chiefs’ talks to maintain their close partnership on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and other security issues.

Seoul (VNA) – The Republic of Korea (RoK) and Singapore agreed onMarch 19 during their defence chiefs’ talks to maintain their close partnershipon the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and other security issues.

RoK Defence Minister Song Young-moo had a meeting with his Singaporeancounterpart Ng Eng Hen in Seoul. The focus of their discussions was handling regionalsecurity affairs and seeking ways to promote bilateral military cooperation,according to Song's ministry.

Song briefed his Singaporean counterpart on Seoul's efforts to denuclearizeKorea and bring lasting peace to the peninsula. He cited a mood of inter-Koreanreconciliation driven by the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

He also requested Singapore's support for the RoK’s initiative to deependiplomatic and military ties with Southeast Asian countries.

For his part, Ng Eng Hen said that his country backs the RoK’s moves and hopedthat both sides will strengthen cooperation on regional and globalsecurity.-VNA
