Bangkok (VNA) – The largest food exhibition of the Republic of Korea (RoK) has marked its first overseas expansion at the IconSiam shopping mall in Bangkok in a bid to promote cultural exchange and strengthen the relationship between two countries.

The “2024 Seoul Food in Bangkok” is being held in collaboration with Korean Ministry of Trade Industry and Energy and Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), aiming to promote exchange between Korean domestic and international food-related companies and create business outcomes.

The business-to-business exhibition at True Icon Hall from October 18-20 allowed 300 representatives from major distribution networks in ASEAN and South Asia to conduct export business meetings.

KOTRA and the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance economic exchanges between Korean and Thai food companies, and strengthen institutional cooperation.

Meanwhile, a business-to-consumer pop-up store at SookSiam street food zone allows visitors to enjoy a variety of foods and beverages from retail companies until November 3. The pop-up store is expected to attract 200,000 visitors, generating 400,000 USD in product sales.

KOTRA president Yu Jeoung Yeol said that Thailand is a key export market in ASEAN, where Korean companies have been consistently expanding.

Korean ambassador Park Yongmin said culinary experience was crucial for cultural exchange and relationship building. He expects the MoU between KOTRA and the TCC will contribute to the RoK and Thailand’s mutual goal to promote food as soft power globally.

Chamber secretary-general Kitsana Vachekrilas said that Thailand and the RoK have strong collaboration on cultural exchange, tourism and economy.

🔜 He affirmed that the RoK is among Thailand’s important trading partners, and vowed to continue the relationship further for the prosperity of the two countries./.
