Russian folk dance ensemble to perform in Hue Festival 2018

The Siberian Patterns folk dance ensemble from Russia has registered to perform in the Hue Festival 2018, announced the organising committee on January 21.

Hanoi (VNA) –♍ TheSiberian Patterns folk dance ensemble from Russia has registered to perform inthe Hue Festival 2018, announced the organising committee on January 21.

The ensemble was founded in 1995 byIrina Ovechkina, a Laureate of the Government’s Award of the RussianFederation. The repertoire includes many folk dances from many regions ofRussia. The Hue Festival 2018 is scheduled totake place from April 27 to May 2 in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue themed“Cultural Heritage with Integration and Development; Hue – one destination,five World Heritages”. The festival will also featuresperformances of the Berywam beatbox band and the Lysistrata rock band fromFrance and the Urpin Folk Ensemble from Slovakia, according to the organisers. It will promote Vietnam’s culture andart through UNESCO-recognised heritage such as the Complex of Hue Monuments,royal court music, woodblocks, the imperial archives of the Nguyen Dynasty andpoetry on Hue royal architecture (2016). As Hue served as the imperial cityunder the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945), the festival will reenact royalcelebrations and events such as Royal Night, Orient Legends and the Nam Giaoritual. In addition, many side events will beheld, such as the Hue Science Festival (organised by the Hue College ofMedicine and Pharmacy), International Gastronomy Fair, beer carnival,International Trade Fair, Splendid Taste of Ancient Village in Phuoc Tich,traditional boat race on Huong (Perfume) River, kite festival, Tam Giang LagoonFantasy and Hue Poetry Festival. Exhibitions taking different themesinclude ‘the poetry on Hue royal architectural works inscribed on truc chi(bamboo pulp) paper’, ‘colours of Bat Trang pottery’, ‘orchids and bonsai’,‘old car exhibition’ and ‘cultural heritage with integration and development’. Various sight-seeing tours offer morefantastic journeys to discover local attractions such as Lang Co beach and TamGiang Lagoon. The Hue imperial citadel relic wasranked second among the top tourism attractions of Vietnam in 2017. Director of the Hue RelicsConservation Centre Phan Thanh Hai said this is the second year in a row theHue Imperial Citadel has received the title. The most visited tourist site isThang Long Imperial Citadel in Hanoi. Hue Festival has taken place everytwo years starting from 2000, bringing together excellent arts companies withunique performances from across the world.-VNA
