Bangkok (VNA) - Security in southern Thailand has been reinforced following a series of bombings hitting Satun and Phatthalungprovinces last weekend.

The blasts took place on March 9 and 10 with no casualtiesor injuries reported. However, they caused significant damage to public andprivate properties in the two localities, which had never been attacked byinsurgents before.

Local media reported that homemade bombs detonated at 11spots in Phatthalung, which is 850km to the south of the capital Bangkok.Meanwhile, in Satun, police found seven other explosive devices, of which fivewent off.

Both provinces are not far from Songkhla, a southernmostprovince of Thailand prone to repeated attacks by insurgents in recent years.-VNA
