Seminar focuses on nuclear safety culture

Speaking at the event, deputy head of the management board of the NinhThuan Nuclear Power Project Nguyen Manh Hung introduced Vietnam ’snuclear power development programme and preparations for two nuclearpower plants in the province.

Chris King, arepresentative from the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (InPo),mentioned characteristics of nuclear safety culture and communicationscampaigns on nuclear safety.

He emphasised theimportant role of nuclear safety, saying it always comes first in thelist of competitiveness criteria to ensure the protection of people andthe environment.

Participants also discussed energypolicies, risks and emergencies, public access and education programmesand a popularisation project on nuclear power development in Vietnam by2020.-VNA

The PM revealed Vietnam’s plan to develop nuclear power in the near future, and called on the Swedish side to assist Vietnam in developing and refining legal and policy frameworks for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes; training and developing human resources; ensuring nuclear safety; and conducting training and drills to improve incident management capabilities.
