Seminar marks 78th founding anniversary of diplomatic sector
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs celebrated the 78th founding anniversary of the diplomatic sector (August 28, 1945-2023) with a hybrid seminar held in Hanoi on August 25.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of ForeignAffairs celebrated the 78th founding anniversary of the diplomaticsector (August 28, 1945-2023) with a hybrid seminar held in Hanoi on August 25.
In his remarks, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son emphasisedthe need to build a comprehensive, modern diplomatic sector that plays a pioneerrole in national construction and defence, adding diplomats should have both good professional knowledge and firm political mettle.
The official also reiterated the idea of “bamboodiplomacy” which was first coined by General Secretary of the Communist Party ofVietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong at the 29th diplomacy conference in 2016.
At this conference, the Party leader highlightedthe importance of diplomacy in maintaining peace, preventing conflict, andfostering international cooperation in the context of the rapidly changingworld, he noted.
Participants looked into advantages as well as difficultiesfacing the diplomatic sector, and proposed solutions to promote its mettle,adaptability and pioneer role.
On this occasion, the ministry’s Party Committee announcedwinners of a writing contest on protecting the Communist Party of Vietnam(CPV)’s ideological foundation and refuting wrongful and hostile views./.
The diplomatic sector will continue improving public consular services, both at home and abroad, to contribute to the common efforts in post-pandemic recovery and development, an official has said.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with 16 ambassadors and chiefs of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad for the 2023-2026 tenure in Hanoi on March 16, before they set off for work in 48 countries and territories worldwide.
President Vo Van Thuong highly valued the diplomatic sector’s contributions to national defence while attending a conference held in Hanoi on April 6 to review the 10-year implementation of the Party Central Committee’s resolution on the strategy for safeguarding the Fatherland in the new context.
Stronger efforts and determination are required to achieve and surpass the set targets, especially in the eradication of makeshift and dilapidated houses nationwide, the acceleration of public investment disbursement, and the implementation of nationally important transport projects, PM Pham Minh Chinh noted.
The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Party chief underscored the need for the press to innovate relentlessly, evolve to keep pace with the country's development, transform into a truly professional, humanistic, and modern sector that serves the cause of the Party, the State, and the people on the path to national construction and development.

In particular, in April 2023, the two sides successfully carried out a joint operation that dismantled a major organised, transnational drug trafficking ring involving both Vietnamese and Cambodian suspects.
