Senior public security, defence officers receive General rank

Hanoi (VNA) – Minister of Public Security ToLam, and Chairman of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’sArmy Luong Cuong have been promoted from the rank of Senior Lieutenant General toGeneral.
Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, whois also Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Chairman of the NationalDefence and Security Council, handed over the promotion decisions to the officersduring a ceremony in Hanoi on January 29.
He congratulated the new Generals, saying the promotionshows the trust of the Party, State and people to the armed force as well asthe recognition of important contributions of General To Lam and General LuongCuong to the construction and development of the army and the public securityforce as well as the nation building and defence.
Pointing to challenges facing the country in the currentperiod, he underlined the significance of reinforcing defence and safeguarding nationalsecurity, political stability and social safety and order, as well as the keyrole of the army and public security force in the work.
“The Party, State, people and the armed forces hope andbelieve that the two Generals will continue promoting the glorious tradition ofthe People’s Army and the People’s Public Security, upholding the revolutionaryvirtue and loyalty to the Party, nation and people, and exerting every effortto serve the nation and people,” stated the leader.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Public SecurityGeneral To Lam showed his honour to receive the ranking, and promised to workharder to firmly safeguard national independence, sovereignty, unity andterritorial integrity, protecting the Party, State and socialism as well as thepeaceful and happy life of the people, while further developing the people’sarmed forces as a regular, modern, elite force.-VNA
The Central Public Security Party Committee convened a conference in Hanoi on December 10 to review the party work in 2018 and set tasks for 2019, as well as recommended personnel planned for positions in the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee for the 2021-2026 tenure.
In an article issued on the first day of 2019, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc laid out six major tasks that ministries, agencies, sectors and localities must focus on throughout the year.
The public security sector must carry forward its core role in maintaining national security and social order and safety in any situation, said Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong.
