Hanoi (VNA) – A set of statistical indicators on sustainabledevelopment in Vietnam was announced at a conference in Hanoi on March 19.
Speaking at the event,General Director of the General Statistics Office (GSO) Nguyen Bich Lam saidthat the core target of sustainable development is to leave no one behind.
Therefore, it isimportant for all parties involved to have full understanding of the necessityof data and statistical work, as the high quality of statistics and thesufficient division of data will support development policies and make the decision-makingmore effective, Lam added.
Deputy Minister ofPlanning and Investment Le Quang Manh stated that monitoring-supervision is animportant content in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to provideauthentic assessments on the implementation of sustainable development goals.
Vietnam has gainedremarkable progresses in carrying out its national action plan on theimplementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Michael Krakowski,Programme Director and Chief Technical Advisor of the GIZ’s Programme onMacroeconomic Reforms and Green Growth, said that the Ministry of Planning andInvestment’s promulgation of a circular regulating the set of statisticalindicators will help Vietnam reach a step closer to the definition of amechanism supervising the implementation of sustainable development goals.
According to GSODeputy General Director Nguyen Thi Huong, the set includes 158 indicatorsrelated to 17 general targets and 115 specific ones of Vietnam, of which 38belong to the national statistical indicator system regulated in the 2015Statistical Law, 112 are similar to 101 sustainable development criteria at theglobal level, 140 are scheduled to be implemented from 2019, and 18 will berealised from 2025.-VNA
