A Singapore auxiliary police officer has been arrested for allegedly planning to fight in Syria, the Ministry of Home Affairs said on June 20.

Hanoi (VNA) – A Singapore auxiliarypolice officer has been arrested for allegedly planning to fight in Syria, the Ministryof Home Affairs said on June 20.

Muhammad Khairul bin Mohamed, 24, was arrested in May and was issued withorders under the Internal Act which allows indefinite detention without trial.

According to the ministry, Khairul wasradicalized and had the intention to undertake armed violence in Syria bytraveling there and joining the Free Syrian Army. 

One of his colleagues was placed on a travellingrestriction order for supporting Khairul’s plan, the ministry said.

Last week, Singapore authorities also detainedthe first woman for suspected radicalism.

In relevant development, the same day, thecountry’s Ministry of Information and Communicationsbanned nine publications that contained extremist religious views, rejected theidea of a secular state and called on Muslims to establish an Islamic State. - VNA
