Hanoi (VNA) - Singapore’s SembCorp has entered the final stage ofinstalling a 200-megawatt Energy Storage System (ESS) on Jurong Island, which isexpected to be operational in this November.

The project is the largest ESS deployment in Southeast Asia, and will support Singapore’sefforts to enhance grid reliability and also maximise solar deployment in thecountry, Second Minister for Trade and Industry Tan See Leng said at the secondSingapore-IRENA High-Level Forum within the framework of the SingaporeInternational Energy Week on October 26.

The ESS is being installed intwo sites on Jurong Island, spanning 2 hectares of land. Once operational nextmonth, it will be the largest ESS deployment in Southeast Asia.

According to Singapore's Energy Market Authority (EMA), the ESS functions aslarge-scale batteries to store energy and dispense it at other times when neededto maintain grid reliability. With its fast-response nature, the ESS is able toactively manage mismatches in electricity supply and demand, and performregulation services to address second-to-second fluctuations in the power grid./.
