Singapore detects first Zika cluster in 2019

The first Zika cluster in Singapore this year has been detected, after three cases were confirmed in Serangoon Gardens, the National Environment Agency of Singapore (NEA) said on September 13.

Singapore (VNA) – The firstZika cluster in Singapore this year has been detected, after three cases wereconfirmed in Serangoon Gardens, the National Environment Agency of Singapore(NEA) said on September 13.

All three cases are residents in theHemsley Avenue vicinity.

The Zika cluster is in close proximity toan eight-case dengue cluster reported last month at Bridport Avenue, CowdrayAvenue, Huddington Avenue, Portchester Avenue and Tavistock Ave.

The NEA has commenced vector controloperations in the area since the dengue cluster was notified.

Residents and stakeholders are urged tomaintain vigilance and continue to eliminate mosquito breeding habitats, saidthe NEA.

The first Zika cluster in Singapore wasreported in August 2016 and about 450 patients were infected with the viruslater that year. The last reported case in the country was in July 2017./.
