Singapore hotel evacuated after blast, fire

Thousands of people were evacuated from Carlton Hotel in downtown Singapore after explosions and a subsequent fire erupted in a room containing electrical equipment, which also caused blackouts in nearby buildings, on February 14.

Hanoi (VNA) – Thousands ofpeople were evacuated from Carlton Hotel in downtown Singapore after explosionsand a subsequent fire erupted in a room containing electrical equipment, whichalso caused blackouts in nearby buildings, on February 14.

A representative of the Carlton Hotel saidthe incident was not terror-related and there were no injuries.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force, which incharge of emergency services, said there were no reported casualties.

The blazed happened in a switch roomhousing electrical equipment and was quickly extinguished by firefighters, theysaid.

The specific cause of the fire is still underinvestigation.

The incident caused a power blackout at thehotel and some nearby buildings for a short period, however electricity wasquickly restored to all affected areas except the Carlton Hotel. –VNA
