Singapore increases allowances for military servicemen

Singapore (VNA) - All national servicemen in theSingapore Armed Forces (SAF), Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Singapore CivilDefence Force (SCDF) will receive a 125 USD to 200 USD increase in theirNational Service (NS) allowance.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Defence and theMinistry of Home Affairs on May 29, the increase will dependon the rank and vocation of servicemen.

With this adjustment, national servicemen will see their NS allowances increaseby between 10.9% and 21.7%.

For example, a full-time national serviceman(NSF) holding the rank of recruit or trainee will receive an allowance of 755USD, an increase from the current amount of 630 USD.

The ministries added that NSFs receive a 5% increment for every 12 months theyserve in that rank, while NSmen receive a 5% to 10% increment if theysatisfactorily complete an NS activity in the preceding work year.

The NS allowance is reviewed and adjusted periodically to ensurethat it remains adequate for NSFs in their basic personal upkeep.

🐟 Three adjustments have been made over the last 10 years, with the most recentincrement in March 2020, when allowances were increased by 70 USD to 120 USD./.
