Singapore (VNA) - Singapore and India have agreed to upgrade their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official visit to Singapore on September 4-5.

India is the second country Singapore has established a comprehensive strategic partnership with, following Australia.

The upgrade of relations was announced by Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on September 5 afternoon, emphasising that this was a timely move because the two countries will celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties and the 10th anniversary of strategic partnership in 2025.

The four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to promote cooperation in the fields of semiconductors, digital technology, education, and health care were also exchanged by the two sides in the presence of the two PMs after an official welcoming ceremony.

𒈔 These documents were signed by the two countries' ministers earlier on the sidelines of the 2nd India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) held on August 26 in Singapore./.
