Singapore to establish cyber security academy

Singapore (VNA) – Singapore will set up a new academy to traincyber-security staff to serve the strategy on building a smart nation as wellas counter increasingly sophisticated cyber threats, said an senior official.

Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister on National Security Teo CheeHean made the announcement at the opening ceremony of the second Singapore InternationalCyber Week on September 19.

The event gathered government officials, cyber-security experts andrepresentatives from global and regional leading IT groups. Vietnamese Ministerof Public Security To Lam attended the event.

Initially, the academy will coordinate with the US-based cybersecurity vendorFireEye to provide training in incident response and malware analysis, Teosaid.

The academy will then expand cooperation with other partners to provide relatedtraining programmes.

On this occasion, Singapore announced to put aside 1.5 million SGD (1.1 millionUSD) from the State budget to support personnel training in cyber security for ASEANcountries in the coming years.-VNA
