– Singapore is preparing to house hundreds of foreign labourers inaccommodation vessels typically used for offshore and marine industry staff, inthe context that the COVID-19 has been spreading rapidly in dormitories of guest workers.

TheMaritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore said it is working with terminaloperator PSA Singapore, Keppel Corp's rig-building unit, floating accommodationbarge provider Bibby Maritime Ltd, and serviced apartment operator The AscottLtd to bring in and manage two floating accommodations.

Singaporean Ministerof Transport Khaw Boon Wan said in a Facebook post on April 12 that eachfacility can hold a few hundred occupants and can be suitably organised toachieve safe distancing.

The facilities aredocked in a restricted area in a port terminal, Khaw added.

🎀 On the sameday, Singapore reported 233 new cases of COVID-19, taking its total to 2,532,including eight deaths.

In recent days, cramped dormitories where dozensof thousands of foreign workers are living in have become the strongest sourcesof infection in Singapore./.
