Singapore to spend 6.3 billion USD on supporting families, businesses

Singapore (VNA) – About 9 billion SDG (6.3billion USD) in support will be rolled out to families and businesses inSingapore in April as part of measures to help them overcome difficulties amidthe COVID-19 pandemic, said Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister cum Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat.

Accordingly,90 percent of Singaporean adults will receive a one-off payout of 600 SGD (422 USD) on April 14 through theirbank accounts.

The restcan provide the Government with their bank details and get the money by April28, or receive by cheque from April 30 onward.

Heng alsonoted that all Singaporean firms will get 75 percent of the first 4,600 SGD (3,247 USD) of each local worker's monthly wagessubsidised by the Government for April, under the Jobs Support Scheme of thecountry.

The government is alsolooking at "various indicators" to see how much more might be neededfrom the country’s reserves to help Singapore meet the fallout from thepandemic, he added.

He urged businesses andSingaporeans to focus on how to make the best use of the amounts alreadyallocated to ride through this difficult period.

Singapore has announcedthree financial support packages totaling 59.9 billion SGD (42.1 billion USD) in justless than two months to cope with the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry ofCambodia on April 13 morning confirmed two more cases of COVID-19, raising thetotal to 122./.
