Singapore (VNA) – A Singaporean citizen has been detained for terrorism-related activities under the Internal Security Act (IS꧅A) that allows for suspects to be held for lengthy periods without trial, Singa෴pore’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a statement on July 29.

Zulfikar Mohamad Shariff, 44, made numerous Facebook posts that promoted and glorified the self-claimed Islamic State (IS) and its violent actions such as beheadings, while exploiting religion to legitimise the terrorist activities of IS, the ministry said. He had further exhorted Muslims to take up arms and wage jihad in places like the Middle East, Palestinian territories, and the Philippines, it added. Zulfikar planned to organise training programmes to induce young Singaporeans, the ministry stated, adding that his postings contributed to the radicalisation of at least two other Singaporeans.-VNA
