Singaporean minister looks to sci-tech, workforce training cooperation with Vietnam

Singapore (VNA) – Singaporean Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean expressed his hope for Vietnam-Singapore cooperation in science, technology and human resources training at his meeting with visiting Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam on March 12.
At the meeting, the Party leader praised Singapore’s visionary leadership and impressive achievements in science, technology, digital transformation, and smart nation development, which have turned the country into a leading regional and global hub for science-technology and education-training. He recommended that Singapore share its expertise with Vietnam in smart urban management, advanced technology, and startup support, while connecting Vietnamese enterprises with markets in the region and the world.
For his part, Teo welcomed the Vietnamese Party chief’s official visit in his new role, saying the trip offers an opportunity to further deepen bilateral ties. He said the fresh upgrade of Vietnam-Singapore relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership marked a historic milestone in the two nations' relationship.
The minister also took the occasion to praise Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements during its reform process and sci-tech breakthroughs.
Both sides agreed on orientations for future cooperation, including strengthening collaboration in such key areas as science-technology, and innovation.
They said it is necessary to train and develop their human resources through exchanges of students, researchers, and experts between Vietnamese institutions and the National University of Singapore.

Party General Secretary To Lam delivered a policy speech on Vietnam’s science, technology, innovation and digital transformation policy in a new era, and opportunities for bilateral cooperation, at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy of Singapore on March 12.
The two leaders agreed that the Strategic Partnership and the Green-Digital Economic Partnership, established in 2013 and 2023 respectively, have brought more substance to bilateral relations. The two leaders decided to elevate Vietnam - Singapore relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
As healthcare development is a key pillar in its socio-economic strategy, Vietnam needs foreign expertise, especially those from Singapore, the Party chief said.
Stronger efforts and determination are required to achieve and surpass the set targets, especially in the eradication of makeshift and dilapidated houses nationwide, the acceleration of public investment disbursement, and the implementation of nationally important transport projects, PM Pham Minh Chinh noted.
The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Long spoke highly of the dynamic, positive, and comprehensive development of Vietnam – Russia relations in recent years. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State place great importance on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia in a substantive and effective manner, in line with the development needs of both nations.
At the conference, participants reported that the Government has so far issued 28 decrees on the delegation of responsibilities and powers between the central Government and two-tier local administrations. Several localities have already piloted the new governance model.
