Singapore's non-oil exports surge 17 percent in August

– Singapore'snon-oil domestic exports (Nodx) in increased 17 percent in August, reported thetrade agency International Enterprise (IE) Singapore.

Nodx expanded for a fourth straight month thanksto increases in both electronic and non-electronic sales.

On a month-on-month and seasonally adjustedbasis, shipments were up 4.5 percent, after falling 3.3 percent in July.

On a year-on-year basis, electronic Nodx surgedby 21.7 percent in August, following the 15.3 per cent growth in July andtopping forecast for 15 percent growth.

Growth was led by integrated circuits orchips (ICs), disk media products and parts of ICs, which increased by 36.8 percent,13.3 percent and 44.8 percent respectively.

Non-electronic products did well too,rising by 15 percent, much better than the 4.4 percent growth in the previousmonth.

Non-monetary gold, petrochemicals andspecialised machinery increased by 137.7 percent, 31.9 percent and 44.9 percentrespectively, contributing the most to the expansion.

August shipments to the majority ofSingapore's top export markets rose, led by China, Hong Kong and the Republicof Korea.-VNA
