Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesian Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has said the use of an intelligent transportation system is the right solution to overcome the challenges posed by increasing urbanisation.

Addressing the opening of the 19th Intelligent Transport System (ITS) Asia-Pacific Forum 2024 in Jakarta on May 28, Sumadi noted that the global population is growing at a rapid pace, which presents serious challenges for transportation in the form of traffic jams, accidents, and carbon gas pollution.

Given this, he said, the intelligent transportation system can overcome this problem if it uses various technologies. Smart transportation can help in efforts to address major transportation challenges and climate change and keep pace with technological advances.

According to Sumadi, ministers, ambassadors, international representatives and several regional governments held a high-level roundtable to share experience in achieving the vision of sustainable urban mobility, which resulted in the Jakarta Declaration, which contains several important ideas that deserve joint attention and action.

He stressed that partnerships and commitment must be prioritised to improve and accelerate the implementation of smart transportation, creative financing mechanisms, and strategies.

ඣ Sumadi called the involvement of many stakeholders the key to funding the development of smart and sustainable transportation, and emphasised the need to improve the regulatory framework./.
