Steering committee reviews anti-money laundering work

The Anti-Money Laundering Steering Committee convened a meeting in Hanoi on September 3 to discuss activities serving the Asia-Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG)’s upcoming mutual evaluation of Vietnam’s mechanism to fight money laundering and terrorist financing.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Anti-Money LaunderingSteering Committee convened a meeting in Hanoi on September 3 to discuss activitiesserving the Asia-Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG)’s upcoming mutualevaluation of Vietnam’s mechanism to fight money laundering and terroristfinancing.

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue, head of the committee,chaired the function.

Members of the committee heard a report from the State Bankof Vietnam (SBV) on the progress of preparation for the evaluation session,which is scheduled by APG for November 4 – 15 this year.

The report also envisaged potential results of theassessment and recommended urgent actions for relevant ministries and sectorsto tackle their current shortcomings.

Deputy PM Hue highlighted the importance of the evaluationand its impact on Vietnam’s politics, economy and society as a whole.

He requested ministries, sectors and members of thecommittee to focus on carrying out the urgent activities decided at themeeting. They were also tasked with collaborating with the SBV in terms ofresources to complete the preparation within October.
