Student research projects focus on pollution, waste reduction solutions
Six projects by university students that were displayed on March 16 at the eProjects Innovation Showcase contest at the Cao Thang Technical College in Ho Chi Minh City mostly focused on environmental pollution and waste management solutions.

HCMCity (VNS/VNA) - Six projects by university students that weredisplayed on March 16 at the eProjects Innovation Showcase contest at the CaoThang Technical College in Ho Chi Minh City mostly focused on environmentalpollution and waste management solutions.
Ateam from the HCM City University of Technology and Education presented asolution for discarded chewing gum while students from Lac Hong University in DongNai province had one for packaging in the e-commerce industry.
Sortingplastic was the focus of students from Can Tho University, while a team fromthe Da Nang University of Technology had a platform for plastic wastemanagement.
Studentsfrom the HCM City University of Technology, who showed how to reuseconstruction materials, won the prize for the most effective solution.
Studentsfrom the Industrial University of HCM City displayed technology to moderniseDow Vietnam Company’s customer order and tracking systems.
Theteam from the HCM City University of Technology and Education won theprize for the best presentation and the Da Nang University of Technology wonfor teamwork.
Theevent enabled students to demonstrate their industry-mentored prototypesto peers and professionals from across the country.
Overthe last semester, eProjects teams developed their prototypes through regularconsultation with professional mentors, who set out a vision for each project,shared their technical expertise and regularly met with the students.
SinceSeptember the teams worked online, on campus and even at Dow's plant to buildand test their prototypes.
Theshowcase was a part of USAID BUILD-IT and the Dow Vietnam Stem Programme whichhas been carried out for four years.
Speakingto showcase attendees, USAID Vietnam’sacting mission director, Bradley Bessire, said: "These applied projectsdemonstrate how the BUILD-IT Alliance links industry expertise with universities’ teaching capacity to give studentsexperiences that develop both the technical and soft skills they’ll need tosucceed in Vietnam’s ever more advanced workforce.”
