Submarine cable resumes normal operation

The submarine cable Asia –America Gateway (AAG) that provides international internet connectivity for Vietnam was fixed successfully on January 23 after 17 days of breakdown.

Thecable was found cut on January 5 at a site 117 km off the Vung Taustation, reducing internet traffic by 40 percent and affecting allVietnamese internet providers, including VNPT, Viettel, FPT and SPT.
Internet connectivity in Vietnam is provided byfour marine cables but the 20,000km AAG has the largest capacity, at twoterabytes per second. The cable system, putinto operation in November 2009, connects South-East Asia with the USmainland across the Pacific Ocean via Guam and Hawaii. In 2014 and January 2015, it was broken five times.-VNA
