Hanoi (VNA) – The Red Sunday programme for blood donation was launchedacross 25 cities and provinces on January 8.
Addressingthe launching ceremony in Hanoi, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh citedthe health ministry’s data that since the campaign kick-started in January 1994,donors have currently provided 98 percent of the blood collected. ไ In 2016,the country collected nearly 1.2 million blood units, which were equivalent to75 percent of blood demand for surgery, treatment and provision nationwide, henoted.
He hopedsuch blood donation events as “Chu Nhat Do” (Red Sunday), “Xuan Hong” (PinkSpring) festival, and “Hanh trinh Do” (Red Journey) will be expanded across thecountry in the coming time. More than40 blood donation festivals are scheduled to take place during the Red Sundayprogramme with the hope of collecting nearly 25,000 blood units.
Many citiesand provinces strive to collect over 1,000 units of bloods, including Hanoi, HoChi Minh City, Dak Lak, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh,Ha Nam and Hai Phong.-VNA
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.
