Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam Cooperative Alliance (VCA) on September 13 opened its first supermarket for safe agricultural products, on a trial basis at No 14, Mac Thai Tong street, Hanoi.
According to Chairman of VCA’s Board of Directors Pham Minh Tuan, the VCA has worked with nearly 200 cooperatives nationwide to build a trademark for safe Vietnamese agricultural products.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ho Thi Kim Thoa lauded the model, especially in the context of rampant unhygienic food. She hoped the VCA will further cooperate with the ministry to intensify the programme.
Customers can check the origin of products through bar codes on packaging, giving tighter control to localities to ensure product quality.

Hanoi will create favourable conditions and support policies for better links between producers and traders in order to bring safe farm products to consumers.
Six teams have been set up to inspect food safety during the Mid-Autumn festival in 12 cities and provinces, according to the Vietnam Food Administration (VFA).
Vietnam will have 1,300 supermarkets and more than 300 commercial centres in the next 10 years, making an important channel for people to access to safe food sources, said MIT.
