Tet holiday begins one week earlier for Hanoi students
Students in Hanoi will begin their Lunar New Year holiday (Tet) – the biggest traditional festival of Vietnamese people – on February 1, one week earlier than previous schedule, to meet the requirements of COVID-19 prevention and control in the city.

Hanoi (VNA) – Students in Hanoi will begin theirLunar New Year holiday (Tet) – the biggest traditional festival of Vietnamesepeople – on February 1, one week earlier than previous schedule, to meet therequirements of COVID-19 prevention and control in the city.
The Tet holiday will end on February 16, unchanged fromearlier plans.
The new schedule was a proposal of the municipal Departmentof Education and Training, which was approved by Vice Chairman of the municipalPeople’s Committee and head of the city’s steering committee for COVID-19prevention and control Chu Xuan Dung, on January 31.
The decision applies to students at all levels fromkindergarten to high schools, as well as centres for vocational training andcontinuing education.
According to official statistics from the department, some 25,000teachers and employees in the educational sector in the city have to stay athome due to their links to F1 cases of COVID-19 patients. Many local schoolshave asked for the department’s permission to switch to online teaching.
The municipal Department of Education and Training earlierissued a document instructing local schools to prepare for online teaching asfrom February 1.
Twolocally-infected cases were confirmed late January 27 in Hai Duong and QuangNinh provinces after 55 days without any case of communitytransmission. The number of cases has increased rapidly over the pastseveral days, with cases detected in other localities including Hanoi.
Local authorities and the health sector are implementingdrastic measures with the aim of containing the outbreak within 10 days./.
Hanoi is offering 10,000 jobs in a campaign launched on April 13 to students and young people who have become unemployed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
