Thai airport gears up for Songkran festival

Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport has held a ceremony to mark the start of special services during the Songkran festival, catering to local holidaymakers and international tourists.
Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport has held a ceremony to mark thestart of special services during the Songkran festival, catering tolocal holidaymakers and international tourists.

The airport’sdirector Raweewan Netarakavesana said as the festive period marks amajor spike in passenger arrivals and departures, the airport hasorganised the ceremony to remind staff members to ensure quality andspeedy service during the hectic long weekend.

Every piece ofthe airport equipment is being checked and more staff members are beingdeployed around the airport ahead of the festival. Security will also betightened to monitor the flow of visitors.

The airport is alsohosting “Suvarnabhumi Songkran Festival 2014” to welcome passengersduring April 8-28 and to introduce them to key elements of the festivalat the moment they land. Buddha statues will be placed at the DepartureHall for water pouring and traditional Thai costumes can be rented forphoto ops in the airport.

Nearly 1.5 million passengers are expected to pass through the airport during April 9-18.-VNA
