Hanoi (VNA) – The Thai national carrier ThaiAirways has said it had lost 3.09 billion baht (nearly 93 million USD) inrevenue in the second quarter of this year compared to 5.2 billion baht in thesame period a year earlier.
The carrier reported the loss in its statement to the Stock Exchange ofThailand (SET) after the stock market closed on August 10.
Thai Airways and its subsidiary companies have reported a net operating loss of2.8 billion baht for the second quarter, 965 million baht higher than in thesame period the year before.
For the first half of the year, the net loss was at 381.6million baht (0.17 baht a share), compared to 2.05 billion baht the yearbefore.
Thai Airways President Usanee Sangsingkeo attributed theloss to the result of Thailand's off-peak tourist season, high competitionamong airlines and high jet fuel prices.
According to the report, average aircraft utilisation was11.5 hours per day, the same as in the second quarter last year. The airlinecarried a total of 5.9 million passengers for the second quarter, a slight dropfrom the year earlier.
It reported total revenue of 47.23 billion baht for thesecond quarter, up 4.6 percent year-on-year, attributed to higher revenue frompassengers and sales of some properties at home and abroad.-VNA
