Hanoi (VNA) - A Thai court on July16 indicted 15 players, a referee and a linesman for involvement inmatch-fixing in the domestic football league last year.

TheAttorney General’s office said in a statement that the 15 footballers werecharged with “violating sport and gambling laws and criminal code”.

Thepenalties could be one to ten years in jail or up to 600,000 THB (18,000 USD)in fines.

Allhave denied the charges and a trial will convene in September to gather more evidence,said the statement, which did not mention the specific clubs.

InNovember, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) said a dozen people hadbeen accused of “receiving money or benefits in order to throw a game.”

Butit said more could be swept up in what the national police chief called a“historic” investigation for the sport.

Policesaid the most paid to players and officials to fix a single game was theequivalent of around 27,000 USD.
