Thai Deputy PM orders tough action against fake news spreaders
Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon has instructed the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES) and security agencies to take tough action against those who spread fake news, local media reported.

Prawit ordered state agencies, including the Anti-FakeNews Centre, the Royal Thai Police, the Justice Ministry and the DES, to worktogether to respond swiftly to the spread of fake news on social mediaplatforms, and take legal action accordingly.
Fake news and false information had caused confusionamong the public, affecting the government's disease control operations duringthe COVID-19 pandemic, said Patchasak Patirupanont, assistant spokesman to thedeputy prime minister.
The Public Relations Department had also been told toissue accurate information to the public, he said.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has also instructed theCouncil of State, the government's legal advisory body, to study the laws andregulations, including those in foreign countries, dealing with the spread offake news.
The council's findings will be presented to the cabinetand will be used to improve current laws, said government spokesman AnuchaBurapachaisri./.
At a meeting of the National Public Relations Committee, chaired by Deputy PM Wisanu Kruangam, there was a discussion on the public’s media discretion and the prevention of the spread of fake news using facts.
